Craps

Did you ever notice when you walk into a casino there is always a huddle around the craps tables? That’s because craps is one of the most popular casino games available. Many people are intimidated by all of the action, so see below for different types of bets at the craps table and also some strategies and bet types to avoid.

Craps Basics:

In craps a person rolls two dice and you can bet with him or against him and/or place some proposition bets. On the first roll if the player rolls a 7 or 11 he will win the pass line. If on the first roll he rolls a 2,3 or 12 he rolled craps and losses. If he rolls any combination other than the ones already mentioned he rolls the “point”. Then the player must roll the “point” number before rolling a 7. Example, on the first roll the player rolls a 6. He must then roll another 6 before rolling a 7.

Types of Craps Bets:

Pass Line – You are betting the player will roll a 7 or 11 on his first roll, or make his point before rolling a 7.

Don’t Pass Line – You’re betting the player (shooter) will lose. This bet must be made before the shooter rolls for the first time. If a 7 or 11 comes on the first roll the don’t pass line losses. If a 2 or 3 comes on the first roll the bet wins. If a 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 comes on the first roll, if the shooter rolls a 7 before making his “point” the Don’t Pass Line pays..

The Don’t Pass line has the lowest house advantage of any craps bet, just 1.042%, however it is unpopular at the live casinos because you are betting against the shooter. If you like the Don’t Pass Line we recommend you play at online casinos.

Come Bet – The Come bet is similar to the pass line except it can be played after the point is established. Example the shooter rolls a 5. With a Come bet you are wagering he will roll a 5 before a 7.

Don’t Come – Similar to the Don’t Pass Line except again it can be placed after the point is established. This bet is not as frowned upon as the Don’t Pass Line, especially is the shooter rolled a 4 or 10.

Odd’s Bets – Once the point is established you place “Odd’s Bets” on numbers 4,5,6,8,9 and 10. You will paid every time this number is rolled until a 7 is rolled. 4 and 10 pay 2-1, 5 and 9 pay 3-2 and 6 and 8 you lay 6-5. If the shooter rolls for quite some time before rolling a 7 or makes his point this bet can be very profitable. We like to play the 6 and 8 when the point is 4,5,9 or 10.

Other Craps Bets

Craps also offers some one time bets, or propositional bets. The bet is valid for the next roll and you either win or lose.

Field – Betting the field is a one time bet that 2,3,4,9,10,11,12 will be rolled. The bet pays even money unless a 2 or 12 comes up which pays 2/1. While this may seem like a good bet the house actually has an advantage of 5.5%. We will only play the field if we notive it hasn’t hit in 5 or 6 rolls. Many try a progressive system which can wipe out your bankroll quickly.

Horn – A horn bet is betting that a 2,3,11 or 12 will be rolled. It is like placing a bet on all four numbers. 2 and 12 pays 30/1 and 3 and 11 pays 15/1. Again, this bet looks apealling but it really isn’t. The house has a huge advantage of 16.66%!
